Reproductive Mental Health Clinic

Our team of perinatal psychologists provides evidence-based individual therapy for women across the reproductive spectrum. We offer specialized care for reproductive and birth trauma, perinatal grief, adjustment to parenthood, and coping with maternal or fetal complications or other medical conditions. Treatment focuses on reducing mood-related symptoms, enhancing coping skills, promoting adherence to medical recommendations, modifying maladaptive health behaviors, processing traumatic experiences, and supporting role transitions, amongst other stressors. Grounded in insight-oriented and problem-focused approaches, our clinicians work within a collaborative care model alongside patients’ OBGYN medical team to optimize both psychological and medical outcomes

Group therapy offers an effective approach to address women's physical and mental health concerns through evidence-based interventions paired with social connection and shared understanding around experiences that are often isolating. Women can build coping skills, reduce distress, and strengthen resilience while learning from others facing similar challenges. Group-based interventions also enhance empowerment, normalize health and mental health concerns across the reproductive lifespan, and foster community.

Mindfulness is an accepting and non-judgmental awareness of thoughts, emotions and present circumstances. MBCT blends cognitive therapy and mindfulness practices. Participants familiarize themselves with modes of thinking that contribute to negative mood states and develop new relationships to thoughts to promote healthier ways of living.

Research has shown this approach to be quite effective, including:

• Reducing depressive symptoms, especially in preventing recurrence of depression
• Relieving anxious symptoms
• Lowering stress
• Promoting sleep
• Supporting healthy interpersonal relationships

This group is designed for women attempting conception, those who are pregnant and those who are up to 12 months postpartum. Each session lasts eight weeks and includes at-home daily skill practice. Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) Perinatal Group Flyer

This group is designed for women in the third trimester of pregnancy through six months after the birth of baby to support women with their well-being and developing healthy thoughts and emotions as they transition into the role of mother. The group is offered virtually via MyChart Zoom. Participants are requested to have a secure connection and private space to attend.

This is a recurring group offered several months per year at 12pm. The group often meets on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Fridays and the specific day will vary each month.

Session Topics:

• Understanding what are normal vs. concerning mood symptoms
• Developing realistic expectations for postpartum adjustment
• Practicing caring for yourself and developing a support system
• Increasing awareness of thoughts, feelings and behavior
• Developing healthy thinking styles
• Strengthening identity and values as a mother

This group is educational and skill-based. It is not intended to assess or diagnose individual mental health conditions. This is a closed group. If you do not start at the beginning of the month, you are asked to wait to begin attending the following month.

Wellness Within Motherhood: Support for the Fourth Trimester Group Flyer

The co-located perinatal psychiatry clinic offers comprehensive, integrated care for individuals navigating infertility, pregnancy, and the postpartum period, including throughout lactation. Our psychiatrists provide safe, evidence-based medication management that prioritizes maternal mental health while supporting fetal well-being and optimizing obstetric outcomes. By working side-by-side with obstetric and reproductive specialists, our team ensures seamless communication and coordinated treatment planning. We partner closely with patients to support informed decision-making, reduce symptoms effectively, and promote stability and wellness through every stage of the perinatal journey.

The MOTHERS (Maternal Opioid Treatment, Holistic Education, Resources, and Support) Program offers comprehensive, multidisciplinary treatment for pregnant and postpartum women impacted by substance use. The program is a joint effort between Obstetrics, Psychiatry, Addiction Medicine, Nursing, and Social Work with consultation and support from OB Anesthesiology and Pediatrics.
