The menopause transition is a reproductive timepoint universal for all women. Many women are in midlife when menopause transition begins, though some may experience the onset of menopause at a younger age due to medical or surgical treatments necessary for other medical conditions. The range of symptoms vary across women. However, some women may experience physical, cognitive, emotional, sexual, and interpersonal changes that negatively impact their functioning and reduce their quality of life and well-being.
Midlife and menopause is a critical time to evaluate and optimize health for long-term prevention of physical and mental health conditions. Treatment that emphasizes a comprehensive approach and integrates patient education, individualized risk assessment, and tailored therapeutic options—including hormonal and non-hormonal strategies—to support healthy aging and long-term well-being is important.
