Dr. Abbey Merryman, MD, MBA, named ACMO for Obstetrics and Gynecology and vice chair, clinical operations, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology

As Medical College Physicians (MCP) continues to identify key leader roles that enable our specialty practice growth and fulfill the mission, vision, and strategic priorities of the health network, we are pleased to see increased clinical alignment and additional physician leadership throughout the specialty practice as we continue establishing our new medical direction model.
I am pleased to announce that effective January 31, Abbey Merryman, MD, MBA, has joined MCW as Associate Chief Medical Officer (ACMO) for Obstetrics and Gynecology. Additionally, she will serve as Vice Chair of Clinical Operations in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. In her role as ACMO, she will have oversight of the Froedtert Hospital OBGYN clinic and mobile van, community clinics, maternal fetal medicine (MFM) and sonographers, reproductive medicine, and UROGYN & Complex GYN.
Dr. Merryman previously served in multiple roles at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, including interim division director for general OBGYN, medical director of quality payment program for maternal health, co-director of Women’s Global Health program, medical director of clinical informatics for obstetrics and gynecology, and assistant chief medical/health information officer.
Dr. Merryman is an outstanding clinician, educator, and researcher. An academic generalist, she engages in all aspects of obstetrical care to both high and low-risk patients, preventative care, and gynecologic procedures. Throughout her career, she has received numerous teaching awards. In her role as ACMO, Dr. Merryman will lead the growth of OBGYN services across the South region, drive expanded access for OBGYN clinicians, and promote safe and high-quality care patient care.
Prior to her faculty position at Iowa, she completed her BS in Biochemistry at Bethel University, received her MD from University of Iowa, and completed residency in OBGYN at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. She recently received her MBA from University of Iowa. Dr. Merryman is board certified in clinical informatics.
