The menopause transition is a natural developmental and reproductive transition universal to all women. It is also a pivotal time to optimize health and well-being for women to prevent the development of chronic physical and mental health conditions. Biological, psychological, social, and cultural factors impact women's symptoms and experiences in midlife and menopause. Multidisciplinary, integrated care is optimal. Many women note early symptoms such as changes in mood, cognition, and sleep, at times before they notice menstrual cycle irregularities. Establishing care with a women's health psychologist can help navigate symptoms, promote adjustment to midlife and menopause, and reduce the long-term risk of physical or mental health conditions.
