Introduction

Dr. Brock E. Polnaszek joined the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in our Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine in October 2024 as an Assistant Professor. Dr. Polnaszek received his Medical Degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in Madison, Wisconsin. He completed residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Washington University School of Medicine in Saint Louis / Barnes Jewish Hospital and fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine at Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University / Women and Infants Hospital of Rhode Island prior to joining the Medical College of Wisconsin. He also obtained a Master’s in Public Health with Brown University School of Public Health.

Dr. Polnaszek’s areas of expertise include comprehensive high risk obstetrics care with an emphasis on complex care coordination and procedures including dilation and evacuation, previable/periviable medical decisions, placenta accreta spectrum and cesarean hysterectomy, forceps-assisted vaginal deliveries, breech vaginal delivery of second twin, and caring for birthing people with medical conditions such as cardiac disease, and substance use disorders.

Dr. Polnaszek’s research interests include developing evidence-based interventions to reduce maternal and neonatal morbidity, understanding how geographic space and place effects health, and addressing upstream social determinants of health to reduce adverse pregnancy outcomes. He has presented his research at national and international meetings and has multiple peer-review publications. He has served as a journal editorial fellow with the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology – Maternal Fetal Medicine, a peer-reviewer for several leading journals and as an abstract reviewer for the Society of Maternal Fetal Medicine’s annual research meeting. He has also obtained local, state, and nationally competitive grants.

Dr. Polnaszek is actively involved in educating the next generation of trainees including fellows, residents, and medical students. He has received several teaching awards as well as been inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society for his practice of treating childbirth as an experience that requires respect for his patients and their families. Dr. Polnaszek sees patients in the Maternal Fetal Care Center clinic at Froedtert Hospital and the Fetal Concerns Center at the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.

Outside of work, Dr. Polnaszek enjoys spending time with his family and two French bull dogs. He enjoys all things Star Wars, Marvel, and long-distance running and triathlons as he has completed 10 marathons including Boston, London, New York, & Chicago, as well as Ironman Wisconsin.
