Shahrokhi, Golya, PhD
Postdoctoral Fellow
Dr. Golya Shahrokhi is a postdoctoral fellow in Dr. Ojesina’s lab, specializing in germline and population genomics. Her research focuses on identifying genetic factors that contribute to disease susceptibility and progression, with a particular emphasis on cervical cancer. Using advanced genomic tools, she explores how genetic variations impact human health, aiming to ease the way for more personalized approaches in medicine and healthcare.
Golya earned her PhD in Ecology, Evolution, and Behavior from the University of Oklahoma, where she investigated the genetic mechanisms underlying evolutionary processes and their influence on species’ behavior and adaptation. Her interdisciplinary work combines computational biology, genomics, and evolutionary theory to address critical questions in human health and population biology. She is passionate about bridging the gap between evolutionary biology and clinical research to uncover insights that can inform new therapeutic approaches and preventive strategies for complex diseases.
