Potchileev, Sanela, DO

MFM Fellow Class of 2028

Introduction

Dr. Sanela Potchileev joined the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Medical College of Wisconsin in August 2025 as a Maternal-Fetal Medicine fellow. She earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Nova Southeastern University and completed her Obstetrics and Gynecology residency at HCA Florida Brandon Hospital/University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine.

After residency, passionate about maternal health research, Dr. Potchileev completed a Translational Research Fellowship at the University of Chicago Medical Center, where she focused on innovative diagnostics and treatments for hypertensive disorders of pregnancy. She served as a co-investigator on NIH- and Melinda and Bill Gates Foundation clinical trials, co-authored multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals, and presented her work at national conferences. Additionally, she led a national initiative to expand postpartum remote blood pressure monitoring programs, aiming to improve maternal outcomes and reduce disparities.
Dr. Potchileev’s current interests focus on hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and postpartum, as well as understanding and addressing the social determinants that impact maternal morbidity and mortality. Her dedication to reducing maternal inequities stems from her own experiences navigating healthcare disparities after immigrating to the U.S. as a refugee.

Outside of work, Dr. Potchileev enjoys mentoring medical students, traveling, and spending time with her family. In August 2024, she welcomed her son, an experience that has deepened her understanding of patients navigating the joys and challenges of pregnancy and motherhood.
