Bapat, Alka, MD

GynOnc Fellow Class of 2028

As a physician, I like to involve a holistic approach in treating patients. Empathy through the process of relaying diagnosis and then management plays an important part in my approach.

Introduction

Dr. Alka Bapat joined the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, in the Division of Gynecologic Oncology, as a Gynecology Oncology Fellow in August 2025. Dr. Bapat completed her medical degree at Seth GS Medical College, Mumbai, India and her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, Queens Hospital Center, New York.

Dr Bapat works with women who are undergoing workup or management of gynecologic malignancies. This may include surgery or adjuvant treatment like chemotherapy for cancer of the uterus, cervix, ovary, vulva, or vagina. Her research interests include novel therapeutics for recurrent cancers, utilization of AI in health care.
During her residency, Dr. Bapat has taken active interest in resident and medical student education. She has used new techniques of teaching suturing to medical students and held quizzes and CREOG review discussions for her resident colleagues.

Outside of work, Dr Bapat is an outdoor enthusiast who loves hiking with friends and chasing new travel adventures. A history buff with a passion for stories of the past, she’s also a trained Hindustani Classical vocalist and harmonium player — proving she’s got both rhythm and range. And yes, ever so often she actually rolls out her yoga mat to meditate instead of just letting it collect dust! This may be an unknown side, but she enjoys playing friendly pranks with her sister and as a newlywed, now with her husband!
