OBGYN’s “Walking Towards Wellness” Success!

June 4, 2018  |  Department News

To kick off Wisconsin’s beautiful weather and to get our department moving, our department introduced a new wellness activity for the month of May, “Walking Towards Wellness”. Each person who wanted to participate was to track their mileage each week – whether it was walking, running, martial arts or any other activity that got you moving. Our goal was to reach 300 miles at the end of May. We SURPASSED our goal in the 3rd week of May with 2 weeks to go. At the end, we hit 450 miles!

And as a surprise, we tracked individual miles of those who participated. Carrie Herdeman clocked in the most miles at 121, Anna Smith was second with 90 miles and Erin Briesath was third with 62 miles.

In celebration of hitting and exceeding our goal, we had a salad luncheon party Friday, June 1.

We proved we can walk towards wellness, now we will continue to walk towards CRUSHING CANCER. For the first time, the Medical College of Wisconsin, in partnership with Froedtert Hospital, is hosting a summer-long challenge, Cancer Crush, combining fitness and fundraising to fuel lifesaving cancer research.

It allows us as employees to set a personal goal for the total miles we will walk, run or bike, as well as how much we plan to raise for cancer research, throughout the summer. Then we come together, as a team, to complete the last miles here on campus on September 22 in our run/walk festivity. Anyone can join in on this run/walk. Not only is it a run/walk, it is a festivity of food, music and family fun!
