Emily RW Davidson, MD

Assistant Professor;

“When I meet a new patient, I aim to understand her perspective and set goals together.
This way we can work together to determine a plan to improve her quality of life.”

Davidson, Emily RW, MD

Introduction

Dr. Emily Davidson joined the department as an assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology within the Women’s Incontinence & Sexual Health (WISH) Program in August 2019. She graduated from Indiana University in 2008 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology. She received her medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine in 2012 then completed her internship and residency at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Obstetrics and Gynecology. She elected to pursue subspecialty training and completed a fellowship in Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery (Urogynecology) at the Cleveland Clinic.

Dr. Davidson’s practice includes evaluation and management of pelvic floor disorders. In the office, she prioritizes making sure her patients understand their conditions and treatment options. She is able to offer office procedures, including bladder injections for overactive bladder. Dr. Davidson performs both outpatient surgeries and more complex surgical repairs. For appropriate patients, she is able to offer prolapse repairs without a hysterectomy (not removing the uterus). Dr. Davidson is trained in robotic surgery and has a special interest in providing Sacroneuromodulation, which are symptoms of overactive bladder and fecal incontinence.

Dr. Davidson’s research has spanned different aspects of the field of Urogynecology. However, her research often focuses on trying to assess the patient perspective and a patient-centered outcome. She recently published an article in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (FPMRS) on surgical outcomes and patients’ views of outcomes after two types of prolapse repair that include leaving the uterus in place (hysteropexy).

Awards and honors include a $10,000 research grant from American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL). This award funded a randomized controlled trial during her fellowship studying opioid prescriptions after hospital discharge following prolapse surgery for which Dr. Davidson served as the principle investigator. Other honors include multiple teaching awards during residency and being elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society during medical school. She also served as an administrative chief resident in Obstetrics & Gynecology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She currently serves on the Social Media team for the journal of her specialty’s society, Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (FPMRS).

She sees patients in the Women’s Incontinence and Sexual Health (WISH) clinic here in the Froedtert Specialty Clinics building.

Outside of work, Dr. Davidson enjoys spending time with her husband and family, especially walking along Lake Michigan and attending live theater and music events.

Testimonials

My entire experience from initial consultation, all the preop tests and procedures, etc., the surgery day, and aftercare appointment, were very good. Very happy with the surgical result.

Outstanding care from Dr. Emily Davidson and her resident physician. My first time seeing Dr. Davidson and I was very impressed and well cared for.

Talking with Dr. Davidson feels like talking to my sister or best friend! She takes time to actually listen and always asks for my opinion about my treatment options. Dr. Davidson is amazing!

Dr. Davidson is excellent. She listens to you!

Dr. Davidson was extremely interested and showed genuine concern as I shared my specific medical issue. Dr. Davidson was very gentle and I felt very “special”. I would definitely recommend her to my friends.

Dr. Davidson is an amazing doctor! Highly professional and skilled. She explained complicated things in a way that was easy for me to understand. I never felt rushed. I was very anxious about surgery because I’m also a cancer patient. She consulted with my oncologist to come up with the best plan for me concerning chemo treatments and my surgery. She also has an amazing bedside manner; like none I’ve ever seen before! She held my hand in the OR while I was being prepped for surgery. It was a small thing but was very comforting for me. I have back issues so she made sure I was comfortable on the operating table. I highly recommend her and already have. I should also say that I’ve had lots of pelvic exams over the years but never one as gentle as Dr. Davidson’s. She’s an outstanding doctor and surgeon. I just can’t say enough good things about her and her doctor patient interactions. I’m doing well after surgery and I am so glad I
found Dr. Davidson!

Dr. Davidson was the best! She knew I was very anxious about the procedure, so she very carefully re-explained the procedure and when I got to the OR, she sat by me and talked to me until I fell asleep. There was also an OR nurse named Nicole that was incredible! She came to get my hair up in the cap you wear to the OR and tell me they’d be coming to get me soon. She caught me crying and was seriously an absolute ray of sunshine! She listened to me, held my hand, and supported me. I felt so much better after she spent a few minutes with me. I think you would have to try really hard to stay sad or scared around her. She is amazing!
