Paper Published in International Journal of Women’s Health: Femoral Fracture in Pregnancy: A Case Series and Review of Clinical Management.

Class of 2020 resident, Justin Harold, MD and Maternal-Fetal Medicine physician, Anna Palatnik, MD, published a case series of femoral fracture in pregnancy in the International Journal of Women’s Health.

In this case series, we described 3 cases of femoral fracture complicating pregnancies after mid-gestation that occurred in the past 1.5 years here at Froedtert Hospital. When we turned to the literature, we felt that data was missing on current management of this complication. Therefore, we decided to review the perioperative obstetric management of women with femoral fracture and describe our multidisciplinary approach that included close communication and co-management with Anesthesia, Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Orthopedics.

One of these cases describes a young woman with osteoporosis, which will be a helpful reminder that young female population with multiple risks factors can be affected by this rare complication.
