Genetic Counselor Awareness Day Thursday, Nov 9th

Join us in celebrating Genetic Counselor Awareness Day!

Genetic Counselors are important healthcare professionals and essential to our evolving world of precision medicine.

Did you know that genetic counselors (GCs) have been on this campus for many years? Their number continues to grow annually.

A decade and a half ago there were a handful of genetic counselors practicing on campus. Today, there are over 35 genetic counselors practicing in the adult, pediatric, industry and research settings. This significant growth is a clear reflection of the need for and importance of genetic expertise in healthcare.

Acknowledging the need for contributing skilled genetic counselors into the field, MCW’s Graduate School introduced their inaugural class of genetic counselors in the Fall of 2021. The Program’s third cohort of ten students was introduced this past August. Next year (2024) will accommodate additional students into the Green Bay campus. The diverse community of genetic counselors and specialties is invaluable for training the next-generation.

Together, MCW’s Adult and Pediatric genetic counseling teams serve ~40 clinics across numerous specialties!
