14 May Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin Named in Top 20 National Health Systems
The Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin health network’s three hospitals have been collectively recognized as one of the top 20 medium size health systems in the nation by Truven Health Analytics, an independent firm that evaluates hospitals and health systems. The Froedtert & MCW health network is the only Milwaukee health system to make the list and one of just three in Wisconsin.
Community Memorial Hospital in Menomonee Falls, Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa, and St. Joseph’s Hospital in West Bend are the Froedtert & MCW health network hospitals. According to Truven, health systems on the list generally outperformed their peers in a variety of important measures, including higher survival rates, fewer errors and lower costs.
“Being recognized by this highly credible group affirms the value our health care network brings to our patients and to our community,” said Catherine Jacobson, president and chief executive officer of Froedtert Health. She added that the recognition is a testament to system alignment and improvements across all of our hospitals.
Jacobson noted that in addition to Froedtert & MCW, the top health systems list includes Ministry Health Care and SSM Health Care, two members of Integrated Health Network, a clinically integrated group of major Wisconsin health systems working to improve care.
The newly released 15 Top Health Systems analyzed data from 341 health systems and their 2,812 associated hospitals to identify those that achieve superior performance based on a composite score of nine measures of care quality, patient perception of care, cost per episode of illness and operational efficiency.
Truven divided the top systems into comparison groups based on total operating expenses of the member hospitals. While our health network did not rank in the top 15, it was recognized among the top quintile, or grouping, of Best-Performing Health Systems nationally. The Froedtert & MCW health network is in the medium size health system category, which includes health systems with total annual operating expenses in the $750 million-$1.5 billion range.
In March, Froedtert Hospital was named to Truven Health’s annual 100 Top Hospitals list for the third consecutive year, in the category of Major Teaching Hospital.
