Women's Health Research Program

Women’s Health Research Program

Securing the lifelong health of women is critical to preserving family, community, and global health. Locating and growing the Women’s Health Research Program at the College, the research anchor for the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center and the only academic medical institution in Wisconsin’s largest population center, will provide an important healthcare resource for women in southeastern Wisconsin.

The Women’s Health Research Program will play an active role in promoting excellence in medical care for women and in conducting research that will improve women’s health. Philanthropy and investments by the College and its hospital partners to support the initiative will be invested in program development, which includes the recruitment of senior clinical and research faculty, equipment purchases, and funding of research projects.

Fetal Intervention/Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome

Fetal Intervention/Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome

The laser-technology surgery dramatically alters the odds for babies with TTTS: in 90% of the cases where the operation is performed, at least one twin survives; in 65-70%, both twins live. Less than three percent of all survivors have any severe disabilities or birth defects.

We are bringing hope to thousands of families facing this disease each year, through patient care, counseling and research.

We are also dedicated to promoting fetal health and training physicians across the world in the field of fetal surgery. Education will be provided to medical personnel and the public at large. You can help us by making a tax deductible gift. You can bring hope to families across the country facing this deadly disease.

Eleanor Delfs Lectureship for Pioneers

Eleanor Delfs Lectureship for Pioneers

Dr. Eleanor Delfs was a scholar and humanitarian who gave birth to a generation of obstetricians.

As a clinical investigator, Dr. Delfs was a pioneer in the study of hCG, one of the first to establish the role of chorionic gonadatropin hormone in the assessment and management of hydatidiform mole and choriocarcinoma. Few obstetricians gave as much to each patient as did Eleanor Delfs. She stayed with her patients through most of their labor. She consoled and was the confidant to many women, including doctor’s wives and indigent patients. She was a woman whose very presence enhanced the quality of her surroundings.

The Eleanor Delfs Lectureship for Pioneers serves as a means of permanently identifying the contributions of this outstanding woman and physician.

Dwight P. Cruikshank, MD Education Endowment Fund

From 1991-2008, Dr. Dwight P. Cruikshank has served as the Chairman for the Medical College of Wisconsin’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. From 1991-2003, he also served as the Residency Program Director for the department.

Among his many accomplishments, Dr. Cruikshank was pivotal in combining the department’s residency program with those at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center and St. Mary’s Hospital to form a new integrated program utilizing all three campuses. Residents trained through the College’s Affiliated Hospitals Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program have a broad, thorough knowledge of our specialty that has allowed them to become leaders in Obstetrics and Gynecology and their communities.
